New Delhi: Actor Celina Jaitly’s estranged husband Peter Haag has reportedly sent legal notices to her over alleged defamatory statements made against him.
In the latest development in the ongoing dispute, Haag has demanded a public apology and withdrawal of the defamatory claims.
Mumbai-based law firm Semwal & Co. has stated that two separate legal notices have been issued to Celina on behalf of her estranged husband Peter Haag and his father, DI Wolfgang J. Haag.
As per the firm, the notices accuse Celina of making and circulating false, defamatory, misleading and sensational claims through interviews, social media platforms and media interactions in India and overseas amid the couple’s ongoing matrimonial dispute.
The development comes weeks after reports claimed that an FIR had been lodged against Haag in Mumbai following allegations by Celina related to domestic violence, intimidation and harassment.
According to the legal team, matrimonial and child custody proceedings involving Celina and Peter are presently being heard in courts in Austria.
The notices claim that despite the matter being sub-judice, public statements, interviews, social media content and media reports carrying unverified and defamatory allegations against Haag and his family have continued to surface.
The family stated that they had maintained silence for a considerable period, but ongoing media attention and repeated allegations left them with no other option.
Speaking about the matter, Solicitor Yesha Shah, Partner at Semwal & Co., stated: “Laws enacted for the protection of women are among the most important safeguards in a civilised society. However, when matrimonial disputes are converted into public media trials through unverified allegations and emotional narratives, the very sanctity and purpose of such laws stand diluted. Legal remedies must remain instruments of justice and protection, and not tools for public vilification or reputational destruction.”
The notices reportedly call for the immediate removal of content alleged to be defamatory and seek restraint on any further public comments concerning the ongoing proceedings and the children.
The notices also seek a public clarification and an unconditional apology.
In addition, the family has urged media outlets and digital platforms to avoid promoting or publishing unverified allegations related to the ongoing dispute.
