Bhubaneswar: All medical tests conducted up to three days before a patient’s admission in hospital will now be covered under the Ayushman Bharat Health Insurance Scheme package in Odisha.
Announcing this on Saturday, Health and Family Welfare Minister Mukesh Mahaling said that Hospitals failing to comply with this rule will face strict action. They must ensure that diagnostic tests conducted up to three days before a patient’s admission are included in the scheme’s coverage, he said.
Stating that private hospitals in the state have been asked to strictly adhere to these guidelines, the Minister said hospital authorities have also been cautioned as the government is taking the matter seriously following multiple complaints.
This apart, a high-level committee has been constituted to monitor implementation. The committee will conduct inspections across various hospitals for ensuring the rules are followed properly, he said.
Several hospitals were reportedly not including pre-admission tests under the Ayushman scheme. The Minister noted that the government received complaints regarding this issue through media reports and social media platforms.
The Minister held a review meeting with departmental officials and representatives of private hospitals to address the concerns and streamline the process.
The government underlined the need for proper conduct by hospital staff towards patients and their attendants. Hospitals have been asked to provide quality treatment and ensure no complaints arise regarding patient care or behaviour.
