Jagatsinghpur: An employee of the Zilla Parishad office in Odisha’s Jagatsinghpur has been suspended for his alleged involvement in the installation of a spy camera in the women’s washroom at the office of the District Rural Development Agency (DRDA).
Sources said the district administration has placed Sanjay Adheka, junior revenue assistant (JRA) of the Zilla Parishad, under suspension with immediate effect. Jagatsinghpur Collector on Saturday issued the suspension order.
The administration initiated disciplinary action against the JRA on the basis of prima facie evidence indicating his involvement in the installation of the spy camera in the ladies’ toilet.
The order said that the action of the JRA amounts to serious violation of the privacy and dignity (modesty) of women, which is a punishable offence under the relevance provisions of BNS and IT Act, 2000.
Notably, the Additional Executive Officer of the DRDA had lodged a police complaint in connection with the detection of a spy camera in the women’s washroom on May 26.
Subsequently, police visited the DRDA office and launched a probe in this regard.
A woman employee of the DRDA reportedly noticed the hidden camera on May 25 and informed the higher authorities.
