Srinagar: An Indian Army vehicle was attacked by suspected terrorists in Sunderbani area of Jammu and Kashmir’s Rajouri on Wednesday, officials said.
The attack occurred in Phal village near the Line of Control (LoC) when multiple rounds of gunfire were fired, ambushing a military vehicle, news agency PTI reported.
Officials said there was no report of any casualty in the brief exchange of fire. Suspected militants hiding in the forest fired a few shots at an army vehicle passing through the area.
Additional troops have been sent to the location, as the area is a known route for militant infiltration. Soldiers fired back, and reinforcements were sent to handle the situation. The army has started a search operation in the area.
The attack took place just hours after the Border Security Force (BSF) reported that they had shot an intruder who was seen making “suspicious movement across the IB (International Border).”
The army said that the intruder was shot because he continued moving forward even after being warned by the soldiers.
“At pre-dawn today, BSF troops observed a suspicious movement across the IB (International Border) in BOP Tashpatan, Pathankot border area & an intruder was observed crossing the IB; he was challenged by the alert troops but paid no heed & kept on moving; BSF troops sensing threat neutralised the intruder,” TOI reported quoting the army.
The BSF also stated that they are investigating the “identity and motive of the intruder.” Vigilant BSF troops thwarted an infiltration attempt and a strong protest will be lodged with Pak Rangers, it said.
Jammu and Kashmir saw a series of terrorist attacks between May and December last year, leading to increased security operations.
