Mumbai: Bollywood giant Amitabh Bachchan became a legend by portraying the angry young man on screen. But he also lent his voice to some of the superhit songs in his movies.
Now, at the age of 79, Bachchan senior is set to turn music composer!
Big B’s name will appear in the credits of close friend R Balki’s upcoming film ‘Chup: Revenge of the Artist’.
Amitabh, whose first song was ‘Mere paas aao’ in his 1979 film ‘Mr Natwarlal’, went on to sing around 35 songs some of which were chart-busters — like ‘Mere angne mein’, ‘Rozana’, ‘Ekla chalo re’ and ‘Pidly si baatein’. But composing is entirely new territory for Amitabh.
As Balki revealed, it was ‘very improptu’, and not planned at all.
Elaborating on why the film is special to him for more than one reason, Balki said: “For me the biggest reason is it marks the official debut of Amitabh Bachchan as a music composer. Amitji saw Chup and played an instinctive original melody on his piano as he relived the film. It was his way of expressing his feelings for the film, paying tribute. This composition, his gift for the film, will be the end title track of Chup. I don’t think there can be an artist whose sensitivity can beat Bachchan’s and Chup has his touch.”
‘Chup: Revenge of the Artist’ features Dulquer Salmaan, Sunny Deol, Pooja Bhatt and Shreya Dhanwanthary. The film will be released in theatres on September 23.
Amitabh will be next seen in Vikas Bahl’s ‘GoodBye’. The film, which will hit the theatres on October 5, 2022, also stars Rashmika Mandanna and Neena Gupta.
