Patna: The stenographer attached to the Bihar Chief Minister’s Office (CMO) has been booked under the Protection of Children from Sexual Offences (POCSO) Act for allegedly uploading photographs of a minor involved in the Jamui harassment and molestation case, along with images of her family, on social media.
The accused, identified as Sagar Kumar, was booked after the photographs were allegedly posted from the X account of Chief Minister Samrat Choudhary. Patna Senior Superintendent of Police (SSP) Kartikeya Kumar Sharma said Kumar has been charged in connection with the alleged uploading of the pictures.
The development comes amid a political dispute over the alleged disclosure of the minor’s identity. RJD MP Misa Bharti had approached the Secretariat police station on Friday, seeking registration of a case under Section 23 of the POCSO Act, 2012, and Section 74 of the Juvenile Justice Act, 2015.
Bharti alleged that Choudhary had disclosed the identity of the Class 10 student who was allegedly molested in Jamui. She further alleged that the station house officer refused to register her complaint.
SSP Sharma said Bharti’s complaint regarding the alleged revelation of the victim’s identity would also be included in the investigation into the matter.
The case relates to the alleged harassment and molestation of the Class 10 girl in Jamui. The alleged publication of photographs identifying the victim has since triggered a political controversy in Bihar.
