Bhubaneswar: Setting a remarkable landmark, Odisha Police has cracked a mobile theft case and secured a conviction within 17 days of the matter being reported.
The theft of four mobile phones and two earbuds was registered at Rengali Police Station on September 9, and the accused, Sanatan Kishan (26), was apprehended.
Following his interrogation, two phones and an earbud were recovered from his house, according to Samarendra Nayak, the investigating officer.
The investigation was completed expeditiously; the charge-sheet was submitted on September 19, and charges were framed on September 21.
The Lakhanpur court of Civil Judge Jaya Ray sentenced the convict to six months of simple imprisonment with a fine of Rs 5,000 on September 25.
The entire process, from registration of the FIR on September 9 to conviction on September 25, was completed in just 17 days.
This reflects the commitment of police towards swift probe, professional prosecution follow-up and timely justice to victims, said Jharsuguda Superintendent of Police Gundala Reddy Raghavendra.
