Chaos At Bhubaneswar Airport: Distressed Mother’s Outrage Over Cancelled Flight Goes Viral [Watch]

Bhubaneswar: Tensions flared at Biju Patnaik International Airport in Bhubaneswar on Thursday after an IndiGo flight cancellation triggered a fiery altercation, resulting in damaged equipment.

The disruption began after IndiGo flight 6E 7352 to Kolkata, originally scheduled to depart between 2 PM and 2:35 PM with approximately 65 passengers onboard, suffered significant delays due to a technical snag. Stranded passengers alleged that ground staff failed to provide timely updates before officially calling off the flight around 5 PM.

The prolonged wait and sudden cancellation proved particularly distressing for passenger Mamoni Kharat, who was traveling to Kolkata for her sick child’s medical treatment.

Overwhelmed by the situation, Kharat lashed out at the airline’s ground personnel at around 6 pm. Viral footage captured her climbing onto a luggage counter and conveyor belt, shouting at employees, and throwing papers and documents across the desk. Amid the chaos, fellow travellers tried to intervene by offering her water, while one passenger could be heard explaining, “Inka bachcha bimaar hai (Her child is unwell). The situation escalated until Central Industrial Security Force (CISF) personnel stepped in to restrain her and warn her against destroying public property. “Aap airport property ko damage kar rahe ho. Dobaara wahaan nahi jaana (You are damaging airport property. Do not go there again).”

Passengers at Bhubaneswar Airport were left stranded after an IndiGo flight scheduled to depart at 2:35 PM was reportedly cancelled at around 5:30 PM, several hours after the scheduled departure time, yesterday.

Kharat allegedly damaged a computer monitor, keyboard, and a passport-swiping machine, causing an estimated loss of Rs 49,000.

Police officers visited the terminal shortly after the incident and provided counselling to the distressed mother. The ordeal eventually concluded late Thursday evening when police and airline staff assisted the affected travellers, allowing Kharat and her child, along with other stranded passengers, to board an alternative flight to Kolkata around 11 PM.

Meanwhile, BPIA authorities have lodged a formal complaint regarding the unruly behaviour, requesting police to take appropriate action and recover the cost of the damaged equipment from the passenger. An officer of Airport police station, however, said that no case has been registered in this connection.
