Mumbai: Music composer Pritam has sparked concern among fans after a recent remark led many to wonder whether he is considering stepping away from Bollywood music.
A day after celebrating his birthday, Pritam on Monday shared a note on Instagram expressing gratitude to his fans and loved ones for their wishes.
While the post was largely a message of thanks, one particular statement grabbed attention.
The composer wrote that he wanted to dedicate the next few years to living life on his own terms and reconnecting with experiences he may have missed over the years.
“Thank you for all the wishes. Can’t answer everyone individually, but please accept my sincere gratitude. Today, I have decided to gift myself a few years to live life differently. To catch up on what I’ve missed,” Pritam posted.
“Time to set off on new journeys, which have been kept on the back burner for long. Mainstream is a great ride. But I’ve always been more curious about the roads unexplored. Thank you for all the love & support. Always,” he added.
Many interpreting his post as an indication that he could be considering retirement from Bollywood music.
“First Arijit, then you… taking a break from mainstream Bollywood Music. It will be loss for them, but for a true music lover it will be boon in disguise. Waiting for some magical & musical experience… perhaps with Arijit again!” expressed one fan.
“First Arijit then youu.. both retired from mainstream. It’s really sad to see our legends saying goodbye to mainstream. Thank you Pritam Dada. Happy Birthday,” wrote another another admirer.
One user commented, “Pritam da retirement le rahe ho kya??? Tussi maat jao (Are you taking retirement? Please no).”

Over the past two decades, Pritam has established himself as one of Bollywood’s most successful music composers, delivering chart-topping soundtracks for several iconic films.
His impressive body of work includes memorable albums from ‘Jab We Met’, ‘Barfi!’, ‘Yeh Jawaani Hai Deewani’, ‘Ae Dil Hai Mushkil’ and ‘Dangal’.
The composer received his first National Film Award for his work on ‘Brahmāstra: Part One – Shiva’.
More recently, he was hugely appreciated for the music of ‘Metro… In Dino’. His latest work is for the upcoming film ‘Cocktail 2’.
