New Delhi: Before the Indian government could announce the ceasefire agreement with Pakistan on Saturday, Donald Trump took credit by breaking the news on social media.
The President of United States has done it again, speaking about last week’s military conflict and the subsequent truce pact just before Prime Minister Narendra Modi’s address to the nation on Monday evening.
Addressing a press conference on Monday morning (US time), Trump said he had told both India and Pakistan that he would to ‘a lot of trade with them’ and that they should stop fighting.
He repeated claims that the US administration played a key role in brokering a ceasefire between India and Pakistan, asserting that his approach to diplomacy through trade pressure helped avert a potentially ‘bad nuclear war.’
“On Saturday my administration helped broker a full and immediate ceasefire — I think a permanent one — between India and Pakistan ending a dangerous conflict of two nations with lots of nuclear weapons,” Trump said.
“We stopped a nuclear conflict. I think it could have been a bad nuclear war. Millions of people could have been killed, so I’m very proud about that,” he boasted.
