Bhubaneswar: Chief Minister Naveen Patnaik on Tuesday asked the officials concerned to ensure a dignified living for construction workers of the state.

Inaugurating the construction workers’ service week on Tuesday, the Chief Minister highlighted that Odisha has emerged as a model state for introducing several welfare schemes for construction workers. The CM said, “More than 22 lakh construction workers have so far been registered and 11 lakh workers and their family members have been provided an assistance of Rs 800 crore. Besides, houses have also been provided to more than 8, 000 workers’ families.”

Naveen further advised the officials concerned to ensure that more workers get the benefits of different government schemes meant for them.

The CM also unveiled two web portals for providing hassle-free registration facilities for construction workers and higher education for their children.

Labour minister Sushant Singh, tourism and culture minister Ashok Chandra Panda, MLAs Priyadarshi Mishra, Bijay Mohanty, Odisha Construction Workers’ Welfare Board chairman Subash Singh and Bhubaneswar Municipal Corporation (BMC) Mayor Ananta Narayan Jena were present on the occasion.
