From Now, FIRs To Be Filed In Times New Roman, 12 Font Size In Odisha
Cuttack: A uniform Times New Roman font with 12-point size and 1.5 line spacing will be a must for Police FIRs, chargesheet and other reports in Odisha from now.
The Odisha DGP has directed the police officers to use the uniform pattern of font size and line spacing while preparing FIR, chargesheet, final form, prosecution report, etc., in all types of cases for better visibility and readability of the content. This circular was in pursuance of an Orissa High Court order, reported The New Indian Express.
The matter caught the single-judge bench of Justice SK Panigrahi’s attention while considering a bail application five months ago. With the text in tiny font size of chargesheet prepared by the investigating officer, it is neither legible in the open eye nor visible properly.
Justice Panigrahi noted that such font size is a wastage of the court’s considerable time and energy while reading the same. According to him, presenting information in a perceptually degraded fashion is an affront to the reader of the text. This is a regular phenomenon encountered by the prosecution, defence and the court.
