Bhubaneswar: With the well-marked low-pressure set to move across north Odisha, heavy to very heavy rain is expected to pound several parts of the state over the next five days, the India Meteorological Department (IMD) said on Tuesday.
The weather agency has issued orange and yellow warnings for different districts of the state till the morning of September 6.
In a special weather bulletin, the Meteorological Centre in Bhubaneswar has issued an orange warning of heavy to very heavy rain at some places over the districts of Sundaragada, Kendujhar and Mayurbhanj during the next 24 hours.
This apart, yellow warning of heavy rain has been sounded in Baleshwar, Bhadrak, Jharsuguda, Baragada, Sambalpur, Debagada, Anugola and Sonpur districts.
Thunderstorm accompanied by lightning and gusty surface wind with speed reaching up to 40-50 kmph is very likely at one or two places over Baleshwar, Bhadrak, Sundaragada, Jharsuguda, Baragada, Sambalpur, Debagada, Anugola, Kendujhar, Mayurbhanj and Sonpur.
On September 2-3, yellow warning has been issued for heavy rainfall over Sundaragada, Jharsuguda, and Baragada.
Additionally, thunderstorm with lightning and 40-50 kmph gusty wind is very likely over Sundaragada, Jharsuguda, Baragada. Thunderstorm with lightning and 30-40 kmph wind is very likely over Baleshwar, Bhadrak, Jajpur, Kendrapada, Jagatsinghapur, Kataka, Kendujhar, Mayurbhanj, Gajapati, Ganjam, Puri, Khordha, Nayagada.
From September 4 to 6, yellow warning has been issued for thunderstorm accompanied with lightning and gusty surface wind reaching up to 30-40 kmph very likely at one or two places over the districts of Baleshwar, Bhadrak, Jajpur, Kendrapada, Jagatsinghpur, Kataka, Kendujhar, Mayurbhanj, Gajapati, Ganjam, Puri, Khordha and Nayagada.
Fishermen are advised not to venture into the sea along & off the North Odisha Coast on September 1 in view of IMD forecast about squally weather and rough sea conditions.
