Bengaluru: Karnataka Chief Minister Basavraj Bommai directed the schools and colleges to reopen this week after closure over the hijab row and asked the administration to make proper security arrangements at campuses.

A set of SOPs (Standard Operating Procedure) on the use of hijab has been promised by Bommai, at the same time underscoring that “everyone must follow the High Court’s direction” regarding the matter.

A clutch of petitions from girl students is being heard by the Karnataka High Court. The girl students challenged the restriction on the use of headscarves in educational institutions. The ban on hijab resulted in violent protests across the state since December.

The Chief Minister made the decision to reopen PU colleges from February 16 following a meeting with Higher Education Minister Ashwath Narayan CN, Minority Welfare minister Shrimant Patil and Revenue Minister R Ashoka late on Monday evening.

Later, Narayan’s office confirmed that the decision has been made to reopen all degree PG Diploma and all other Colleges too from the same day.
