New Delhi: India will restart issuing tourist visas to Bangladeshi nationals from June 28, marking a significant step towards restoring normal travel and people-to-people exchanges between the two neighbouring countries after prolonged restrictions, according to reports.
The move is being seen as part of broader efforts by New Delhi and Dhaka to normalise bilateral relations and resume full-scale visa operations.
Tourist visa services for Bangladeshi citizens had remained suspended for several months amid diplomatic and security concerns that affected travel between the countries. During this time, India continued to issue select categories of visas, including medical visas, while discussions were underway to gradually restore regular visa services.
The resumption of tourist visas follows a series of diplomatic engagements between the two sides aimed at rebuilding ties and increasing cross-border mobility. Earlier this year, Bangladesh resumed visa services for Indian citizens, including tourist visas, signalling a willingness from both governments to improve people-to-people connectivity.
Officials, according to reports, have indicated that the reopening of tourist visa services is expected to benefit thousands of travellers, families, students and businesses with interests across the border.
