Coimbatore: Posters that appeared across parts of Coimbatore on Sunday have triggered fresh speculation over the political future of former Tamil Nadu BJP president K. Annamalai, with some suggesting that he may be preparing to launch a new political outfit in the state.
The posters, put up by supporters, carried messages hinting at a new political chapter for the BJP leader and sparked discussions on social media as well as within political circles. The development comes weeks after similar posters backing Annamalai surfaced in Chennai and other parts of the state, amid growing debate over his role following the 2026 Assembly elections.
The latest round of speculation follows reports that Annamalai is planning to launch a new grassroots movement aimed at building a volunteer network across Tamil Nadu. However, sources cited in various media reports have indicated that there are no immediate plans for him to float a separate political party.
Questions about Annamalai’s future have persisted since he stepped down as the Tamil Nadu BJP chief. Supporters have repeatedly expressed concerns that he has been sidelined within the party despite retaining significant popularity among grassroots workers and party cadres.
Annamalai has previously denied plans to launch a new political party in Tamil Nadu. Speaking in Coimbatore last year, he had stated that he had no intention of starting a separate political outfit, although he remarked that no one could be forced to remain in a political party against their will.
Neither Annamalai nor the BJP leadership has officially commented on the latest posters.
