Labour Migration: Outside Buses Under RTO Scanner In Odisha’s Ganjam

Berhampur: Following the death of 8 workers from Ganjam on the way to Surat in the bus accident at Cheri Khedi in Raipur in Chhattisgarh on September 5, the Regional Transport Officer (RTO) of Ganjam is keeping a close watch on the buses coming to district from other states or passing through it.

The migrant workers, who had returned from other states after the outbreak of COVID-19 pandemic, have now started to migrate from Ganjam mainly in buses.

The Ganjam RTO seized a private bus which was on the way to Madurai from West Bengal for not having necessary document and fitness certificate. The bus has been detained in Chatrapur police station while the passengers have been sent in another bus.

A fine of Rs 5,24,393 was imposed on 4 out of 32 buses which passed through Ganjam on Monday, said Sanjay Biswal Ganjam RTO.
