Mercury Dips Further In Odisha’s Twin Cities; 18 Places Record Night Temp Below 15°C
Bhubaneswar: Amid the prevailing coldwave conditions in Odisha, Jharsuguda recorded the lowest night temperature of 10.4°C followed by Ranital in Bhadrak at 10.6°C, India Meteorological Department (IMD) informed on Saturday.
The mercury also dipped further in the twin cities in the last 24 hours. The temperature in Bhubaneswar and Cuttack plummeted by 2°C and 1.7°C and was recorded at 15.2°C and 14.5°C respectively.
A total of 18 places witnessed night temperatures below 15°C:
- Jharsuguda- 10.4°C
- Ranital- 10.6°C
- G.Udayagiri- 11.5°C
- Keonjhar- 11.6°C
- Kirei in Sundargarh- 11.7°C
- Sundargarh – 12°C
- Balasore- 12.3°C
- Phulbani- 13°C
- Deogarh – 13.2°C
- Kendrapada- 13.8°C
- Angul, Bhadrak – 14°C
- Koraput, Bargarh, Hirakud (Sambalpur), Similiguda (Koraput), Cuttack- 14.5°C
- Jajpur- 14.8°C
According to the IMD, this trend would continue for the next two days. “Change in wind pattern to northerly would influence the gradual drop in mercury. The mercury would drop below normal at some places,” IMD-Bhubaneswar senior scientist Umashankar Das said.
According to Centre for Environment and Climate (CEC) director Sarat Chandra Sahu, the night temperature would drop across the state at least for a week starting Sunday.
