Mercury To Soar Past 40°C In Odisha For Next 5 Days; Sambalpur Hottest At 42.4°C By 2.30PM
Bhubaneswar: The mercury soared past 40°C at three places in Odisha by 2.30 pm on Wednesday with Sambalpur being the hottest at 42.4°C followed by Jharsuguda (41.8) and Hirakud (41.4), the Bhubaneswar Meteorological Centre said.
Chandbali recorded 38.2°C, Bhubaneswar 37.6°C, Balasore 34.8°C and Keonjhar 34.6°C.
The agency further said that 18 places may record 40°C and more with the highest of 43°C at Jharsuguda with a slight drop in the mercury level for the next two days.
According to the MeT office, the day temperature is likely to be 40°C or more at a few places in Interior Odisha during the next 5 days. “Hot and discomfort weather is likely at a few places in coastal Odisha during the next 2 days and interior Odisha during the next 5 days. People are advised to take precautionary measures while going outside,” it said.

Yellow warning for thunderstorm with lightning has been issued for one or two places in Malkangiri, Koraput, Rayagada, Gajapati, Mayurbhanj and Balasore till May 11 morning. Light to moderate rain or thunderstorm may occur at a one or two places in coastal Odisha Keonjhar, Mayurbhanj, Dhenkanal, Kandhamal, Rayagada, Malkangiri, Nabarangpur and Koraput during this period. Dry weather is very likely to prevail in the remaining districts.

It will continue to rain in south and coastal Odisha till May 15 morning, it added.
