Deogarh: In view of the prevailing heatwave conditions, Deogarh and Puri administrations on Thursday ordered extension of the all schools across the two districts.

According to an official order issued by the District Education Office (DEO) of Deogarh, all schools from primary to Class X shall remain closed till June 20 to protect students from extreme heat. The classes are now slated to resume on June 22 in the district.

In a similar move, authorities in Puri district extended school holidays until June 22 as the severe heatwave continues to grip the region.

In Khurda, authorities have revised school timings across the district and directed institutions to function during cooler morning hours. As per the order issued by the district authorities, classes will be held from 6.30 am to 10.30 am to protect the students from sweltering heat.

However, examinations scheduled during this period will continue as per the existing timetable.

The administration has advised conducting exams in the morning hours to avoid peak heat exposure. The order further directs all heads of educational institutions to ensure adequate availability of safe drinking water and implement necessary precautionary measures against heatwaves for both students and staff.

The move comes as a precautionary measure despite the state government’s earlier plan for schools across Odisha to reopen on June 18 following the extended summer break that began in late April due to soaring temperatures

Earlier, the Angul, Sundargarh and Ganjam administrations on Wednesday announced an extension of summer vacation for all government and private schools in the districts till June 20.
