Bhubaneswar: People in Odisha are unlikely to get any respite from the sweltering heatwave before May 28 as the India Meteorological Department (IMD) on Saturday predicted that the prevailing weather conditions may continue for five more days.
The weather agency said that the prevailing heatwave condition across Odisha is likely to continue till May 28. It also predicted occurrence of thunderstorm activity in several parts of the state during the period.
In its midday weather bulletin, the Meteorological Centre in Bhubaneswar issued orange and yellow warnings for different districts for the next five days.
Some places in districts like Jharsuguda, Sambalpur, Balangir, Boudh, Nuapada, Kalahandi and Khurda are likely to experience heatwave condition till May 28.
This apart, several places in Balasore, Bhadrak, Jajpur, Kendrapara, Jagatsinghpur, Cuttack, Koraput, Malkangiri, Gajapati, Ganjam, Puri and Nayagarh are likely to witness hot and humid conditions till May 28.
Additionally, thunderstorms have been predicted at some places in Balasore, Bhadrak, Jajpur, Kendrapada, Jagatsinghpur, Cuttack, Khurda, Sundargarh, Rayagada, Koraput, Malkangiri, Gajapati, Ganjam, Puri and Nayagarh till May 30.
According to the IMD, there will be no large change in maximum temperatures or day temperatures across Odisha during the next five days. Thereafter, the maximum temperatures are likely to fall by 2 to 3 Degree Celsius.
