Mumbai: Triptii Dimri believes the portrayal of women in cinema is evolving, with audiences now embracing characters who are imperfect and layered.
Sharing her thoughts on changing storytelling trends, the ‘Animal’ actor said that viewers now connect more with flawed female characters because “nobody is perfect.”
During a conversation at HT City Stars In The City with Sonal Kalra, Triptii was asked by a fan if the audiences now prefer to watch flawed characters on screen.
“Yes, people want to see more relatable characters, because everyone is flawed, nobody is perfect. Whether it’s me, or Madhuri (Dixit Nene, co star in Maa Behen) ma’am, nobody. When you see flawed characters on screen, you relate to them,” she replied.
“Aaj kal filmon mein zyaadatar dekhte hain ki maa ek dum sacrifice karegi apne bacchon ke liye, bacchon na khaana nahi khaaya toh maa bhi nahi khaayegi… aisa real mein nahi hota hai. (These days, films mostly show mothers as completely self-sacrificing for their children — if the children don’t eat, the mother won’t eat either… but that’s not how it is in real life). Maybe at some place, but it is not the norm.”
Talking about her upcoming film ‘Maa Behen’, the actor said, “I am sure when audiences watch the film and our characters Rekha, Jaya and Sushma being unapologetically themselves, they will surely relate to them. They will see a glimpse of themselves in these characters.”
Besides ‘Maa Behen’, Triptii will also be seen in Sandeep Reddy Vanga’s ‘Spirit’, co-starring Prabhas. She also features in Vanga’s ‘Animal Park’.
