Nor’wester Warning For 13 Odisha Districts In Coming 4 Days

Bhubaneswar: The India Meteorological Department on Monday issued a Nor’wester alert for 13 districts of Odisha in the coming four days.

According to IMD’s mid-day weather bulletin, most parts of the state will witness rainfall activity with thunderstorm and lightning in the next 24 hours under the influence of a cyclonic circulation over Bangladesh and its neighbourhood extending up to 3.1 km above the mean sea level that has become less marked.

The forecast and warning from March 5 to 8 are as follows:

March 5 (Forecast):
 Light to moderate rain or thundershower likely at a few places over the districts of north coastal Odisha and Mayurbhanj, Keonjhar and at one or two places over the remaining districts.
Warning: Thunderstorm with gusty wind and lightning likely at one or two places over Balasore, Bhadrak, Jajpur, Kendrapara, Cuttack, Jagatsinghpur, Mayurbhanj, Keonjhar, Dhenkanal, Nayagarh, Khurdha, Puri and Gajapati districts.

March 6 (Forecast): Light to moderate rain or thundershower likely to occur at one or two places over the districts of coastal Odisha and Mayurbhanj, Keonjhar, Kandhamal and Rayagada in north and south Odisha.
Warning: Thunderstorm with gusty wind and lightning likely at one or two places over the districts of Balasore, Bhadrakh, Jajpur and Kendrapada.

March 7 (Forecast): Light rain or thundershower likely at one or two places over the districts of coastal Odisha.
Warning: Thunderstorm with gusty wind and lightning likely at one or two places over the districts of Khurda, Puri, Ganjam and Gajapati.

March 8 (Forecast): Light rain or thundershower likely at one or two places over the south coastal districts and the south interior districts of Rayagada and Koraput.
Warning: Thunderstorm with gusty wind and lightning likely at one or two places over the districts of Ganjam, Gajapati and Puri.

The bulletin, however, said that though there will be light rain or thundershower at one or two places over the districts of Gajapati, Ganjam, Rayagada, Koraput and Malkangiri on March 9, there is no thunderstorm and lightning warning in any district on the day.

Besides, the IMD has also advised fishermen not to venture into the sea in north coastal Odisha and north-west Bay of Bengal on March 5, as wind speeds reaching 25-35 kmph with gusting of 45 kmph along and off the north Odisha coast and north-west Bay of Bengal will make the sea condition very rough.
