Bhubaneswar: Amid spiralling COVID-19 cases in Ganjam, the Odisha government on Tuesday posted 130 doctors to the worst-hit district.

The notification issued by the Health and Family Welfare Department said that 30 medical officers have been deployed to the district headquarters hospital “in exigencies of public interest with immediate effect” in view of the COVID-19 outbreak.

Eight among them are those who had joined the department after completion of their PG.

“Another 100 AMOs/HMOs have been deployed at CDM and PHO in the district for smooth management of COVID-19 duty,” the notification added.

Ganjam district has so far reported 44335 COVID-19 cases. With 44 deaths and 2701 recoveries, the district now has 1,588 active cases.

Earlier in the day, Chief Minister Naveen Patnaik had directed the officials to strengthen monitoring of the situation in Ganjam, Cuttack, Jajpur, Sundargarh and Khurda districts, which had seen a spike in COVID-19 cases following the return of migrants to the state.
