Bhubaneswar: In a significant move to enhance security and transparency, all Odisha government offices are set to be equipped with CCTV cameras for effective surveillance.
Officials said that the cameras will cover a minimum radius of 500 meters around each government building. The surveillance system will be monitored centrally from a designated Command and Control Room to ensure real-time oversight of office premises.
The Commerce and Transport Department issued an official notification confirming the plan. A high-level meeting is scheduled to be held on October 17 to finalise strategies and technical specifications for implementation of the plan. Several important aspects with regard to funds and basic guidelines will be discussed in the meeting.
Sources said the Director General of Police (DGP) had written a letter in this regard to the Chief Secretary last month, keeping in mind the rising number of crimes across Odisha.
This move will also include the installation of CCTVs at the Central government offices in the State.
Worth mentioning, earlier in a similar move, the Odisha government had decided to install AI-enabled cameras inside all district-level government offices soon.
During a high-level meeting held on August 12, Chief Secretary Manoj Ahuja had directed officials to focus on ten key areas to improve governance and public service delivery.
