Bhubaneswar: Even as most of the areas in north and south coastal Odisha received heavy rainfall in the last 24 hours under the influence of a low pressure, the India Meteorological Department (IMD) has said the state will receive heavy rainfall for four days till October 7.

The IMD in a mid-day bulletin on Saturday said the low-pressure area over the north-west and adjoining west-central Bay of Bengal off Odisha and north Andhra Pradesh coasts now lies over the north-west Bay of Bengal and adjoining Odisha coast while the cyclonic circulation over south Chhattisgarh and neighbourhood now lies over south Odisha and neighbourhood. Under its influence, most parts of south coastal and interior districts will receive heavy rainfall for next four days till October 7.

Meanwhile, the low-lying areas in the state capital witnessed severe water-logging after heavy rainfall lashed this afternoon for more than two hours. There were power disruptions in some areas of the city which received 43.5 mm.

Following heavy rainfall warning, Special Relief Commissioner (SRC) Pradeep Jena has asked the district collectors to remain prepared to meet water-logging, flash flood and landslide in hilly areas, keep a close vigil on the low-lying areas and take necessary steps to drain out the rainwater.

Besides, the collectors have been asked to keep the Fire Services teams in readiness for search and rescue operations and inform the state government if they need urgent requirement.

The collectors of the coastal districts have been asked not to allow the fishermen to venture into deep sea for fishing till next 48 hours as squally weather with the surface wind reaching 40-50 kmph along and off the coast is likely to make the sea condition very rough.

In view of the heavy rainfall, IMD has issued yellow warning for the following districts.

October 4
Heavy to very heavy rainfall at one or two places over the districts of Kalahandi, Kandhamal, Ganjam and Angul.

Heavy rainfall at one or two places over the districts of Gajapati, Rayagada, Boudh, Puri, Khurda, Nayagarh, Balangir, Cuttack, Jagatsinghpur, Kendrapada, Dhenkanal and Sonepur.

October 5
Heavy rainfall at one or two places over the districts of Ganjam, Koraput, Dhenkanal, Keonjhar, Sambalpur, Boudh, Angul, Cuttack, Deogarh, Gajapati and Sonepur.

October 6
Heavy rainfall at one or two places over the districts of Nuapada, Nabarangpur, Kalahandi, Kandhamal, Boudh, Balangir, Bargarh, Balasore, Bhadrak, Kendrapada and Rayagada.

October 7
Heavy rainfall at one or two places over the districts of Koraput, Nabarangpur, Bargarh, Balangir, Jharsuguda, Nuapada, Sundargarh, Keonjhar, Boudh and Kalahandi.
