Odisha Municipal Polls: BJP Picks Suniti Mund As Mayor Face For Bhubaneswar
Bhubaneswar: The BJP on Saturday named well-known writer and social activist Suniti Mund as its Mayor candidate for the Bhubaneswar Municipal Corporation (BMC) in the Urban Local Bodies (ULB) polls in Odisha.
The announcement was made by the party’s Bhubaneswar MP Aparajita Sarangi.
The BJD and Congress have already announced their Mayor candidates for the BMC. The BJD too announced its candidate on Saturday.
“I’m thankful to the BJP and party workers for choosing me as the Mayor candidate for the BMC. I will try my best to make Bhubaneswar a beautiful city,” Suniti said.
She comes from a literary background and has authored many books. She has also worked as a producer, director and script writer for TV serials, ad films and documentaries.
She has a Master’s Degree in Odia from Sambalpur University, PG Diploma in Journalism & Mass Communication, PG Diploma in Rural Development from IGNOU, Delhi, and Hindi Ratna from Rastra Vasha, Wardha.
Suniti’s opponents are BJD’s Sulochana Das and Congress’ Madhusmita Acharya.
Earlier, the BJD announced its three Mayor candidates — Sulochana Das for the BMC, Rajya Sabha member Subhash Chandra Singh for the Cuttack Municipal Corporation (CMC) and Sanghamitra Dalei for the Berhampur Municipal Corporation (BeMC).
Sulochana is the State Commissioner for Persons with Disabilities and former party spokesperson. Sanghamitra is BJD’s women wing president in Ganjam district.
