Odisha SRC Issues Advisory On Possible Cyclonic Storm In Bay Of Bengal
Bhubaneswar: The Odisha government has issued an advisory to district collectors in the wake of the IMD’s forecast of formation of a cyclonic storm in the Bay of Bengal.
In an official letter to the district collectors on Friday, the Special Relief Commissioner (SRC) said as per the midday weather bulletin issued by India Meteorological Department (IMD) on Friday, a cyclonic circulation is likely to develop over southeast Bay of Bengal on Saturday. Under its influence, a low pressure area is likely to form over the same region on Sunday. It is likely to concentrate into a depression over southeast Bay of Bengal on Monday.
Thereafter, it is likely to intensify into a cyclonic storm while moving nearly northwards towards central Bay of Bengal. While the details of its path and intensification will be provided after the formation of low pressure area, the system is under constant watch and being monitored regularly.
The IMD has issued yellow warning with forecast that thunderstorm with lightening is very likely to occur at
one or two places in Balasore, Bhadrak, Jajpur, Kendrapada, Cuttack, Jagatsinghpur, Puri, Khurda, Nayagarh,
Ganjam, Gajapati, Malkangiri, Koraput, Rayagada, Kandhamal, Myurbhanj, Keonjhar, Sundargarh, Jharsuguda, Nuapada, Balangir, Nabarangpur and Kalahandi.
The SRC advised the districts under yellow warning to keep administrative machinery ready to face any eventuality. People have also been told to keep watch on weather and take safe shelter during the thunderstorm activity to protect from lightning and follow traffic advisories in urban areas.
The district officials were told to keep continuous vigil on low-lying areas and carry out dewatering wherever required including urban areas. They should report the rainfall to the SRC office.
Besides, the officials have been told to submit a report on the damage, due to thunderstorm, whirlwind, hailstorm, lightning immediately for information of the government.
