Odisha Woman Preparing For Civil Services Exam Donates Hair For Cancer Patients
Bhubaneswar: In a commendable step which can inspire many others, a woman preparing for civil services examination in Bhubaneswar donated all her hair for cancer patients.
Realising that her long hair can be a precious resources for a noble cause, Smrutisudha Sahu decided to get tonsured and donate her hair for wigs worn by cancer patients.
Stating that she was inspired by her parents to do something for people, she said her father particularly encouraged her to help cancer patients by donating her hair.
There are thousands of people suffering form cancer in Odisha. Patients with this painful disease have to undergo a tough treatment procedure including chemotherapy, which lead to severe hair fall, she said.
While hair loss causes serious psychological impact on the patients, women in particular get severely affected by this treatment. It affects their self condidence after they lose all their hair due to side effects of the treatement, she said.
After deciding to donate her hair to help cancer survivors and fighters, Smruti said she got in touch with doctors at SCB Medical College and Hospital in Cuttack and came to know about a trust through which she could do it.
Stating that she donated her hair on June 10 through the trust, she said many of her friends and relatives were inspired by her move and they have also expressed their desire to donate their hair for cancer patients.
Smruti, who hails from Koraput, is living in Bhubaneswar and preparing for the civil services examination.
Her family members have also expressed their happiness and praised her noble gesture saying she has set an example for others in the society.
