New Delhi: The founders of World’s 50 Best Restaurants and Bars have released its maiden list of top 50 hotels. And the winner is – Passalacqua in Lake Como, Italy.
The only Indian property to make the cut is Oberoi Amarvilas, Agra, at No. 45.
The luxury hotel, the best in Agra, is located just 600 metres from the Taj Mahal and offers unrestricted views of one of the world’s seven wonders from every room and suite.
As for Passalacqua, the numero uno hotel, it’s a relatively tiny 24-room property which opened only in June 2022 after it took several years to restore the 18th-Century building, which has hosted eminent guests like Napoleon Bonaparte, Winston Churchill, and Vincenzo Bellini.
In case you are wondering about the tariff, rates at Passalacqua start at around $1,800 per night for next summer.
Passalacqua is followed by a series of Asian properties — Rosewood Hong Kong; Four Seasons Chao Praya River, Bangkok; The Upper House, Hong Kong; Aman Tokyo – to round off the top 5.
European hotels occupied 21 of the 50 slots, while the US has just — New York City’s Aman and Equinox.
Not a single hotel from Marriott and Hilton groups made the top 50 in the list compiled by UK-based company William Reed Business Media.
