Jakarta: Prime Minister Narendra Modi was on Tuesday awarded Indonesia’s highest civilian honour, the Bintang Adipurna of the Republic of Indonesia (Star of the Republic of Indonesia), by President Prabowo Subianto during his official visit to Jakarta, agencies reported.
In a post on X, PM Modi expressed his gratitude, saying: “This morning, I was honoured with Indonesia’s highest civilian award with great affection. This honour belongs to the millions of people of India. It reflects the sentiments of the people of Indonesia and symbolizes the historic and deep-rooted relations between India and Indonesia. I sincerely thank President Prabowo ji, the Government of Indonesia, and the people of Indonesia for this honour.”
Ministry of External Affairs spokesperson Randhir Jaiswal posted images of the ceremony on X and described the decoration as a mark of close ties between the two nations.
Jaiswal wrote, “A tribute to the India-Indonesia friendship. Prime Minister Narendra Modi was conferred ‘Bintang Adipurna of the Republic of Indonesia’ Medal of Honor by President Prabowo Subianto. This is the highest honor of Republic of Indonesia. It has been awarded in recognition of PM’s leadership in strengthening India-Indonesia friendship and furthering unity, continuity and prosperity of Indonesia. PM dedicated the honour to the people of India and the enduring bonds of friendship between India and Indonesia.”
Established in 1959, the Bintang Adipurna is conferred on those who have made exceptional contributions to Indonesia’s unity, continuity and prosperity. The distinction serves as the republic’s foremost civilian and military award, reserved for individuals whose service has notably supported Indonesia’s integrity, stability and national eminence.
