Bhubaneswar: President Droupadi Murmu and Prime Minister Narendra Modi are likely to tour Odisha this month, Mayurbhanj MP Naba Charan Majhi informed on Tuesday.
According to information shared by the Parliamentarian, President Murmu is scheduled to arrive in Rairangpur on June 19. Prime Minister Narendra Modi is expected to join the state itinerary the following day, June 20.
The high-profile visits are tightly packed with several public events and project launches. A primary highlight of the trip includes the inauguration of a newly-constructed sports stadium in Rairangpur, an event in which both leaders are expected to participate.
The MP expressed enthusiasm, noting that the scheduling is historic for the region. “The twin visits have generated massive excitement, particularly in Mayurbhanj and Rairangpur, a region that holds deep cultural roots for the President and remains a political stronghold for the BJP. The region with 80 per cent population belonging to tribal communities has been witnessing infrastructure, welfare schemes, and direct progress under PM Modi. We are expecting significant developmental announcements during this visit,” he said.
Chief Minister Mohan Majhi had formally invited PM Modi to attend the state-wide celebrations marking the second anniversary of the BJP-led government in Odisha. While administrative preparations are rapidly underway across various departments to draft the final itinerary, a formal official confirmation from the Prime Minister’s Office (PMO) is still awaited to lock in the exact timings. However, early messages from Rashtrapati Bhavan indicate that the President’s schedule for June 19 is almost finalised.
MP Majhi highlighted that the Prime Minister’s itinerary goes far beyond the anniversary celebrations. Following events in Rairangpur, PM Modi is scheduled to travel directly to Bhubaneswar to conduct high-level strategic review meetings alongside CM Majhi’s administration.
Following his engagements in Odisha, Prime Minister Modi is slated to travel to Kolkata ahead of International Yoga Day on June 21, where he is scheduled to attend a major commemorative event, he added.
Further official confirmations regarding the exact list of projects to be launched are expected in the coming days.
The MP also hinted at likely expansion of the Odisha Cabinet by or after Raja festival (June 15). “There are six vacant berths in the Odisha council of ministers and in all probability, these will be filled up after the state tour of the PM,” he added.
