New Delhi: Donald Trump was the toast of Israel on Monday as he was invited to Israel’s Knesset (Parliament) to recognise his contribution in ensuring the Gaza peace deal with Hamas.
The US President was given a red-carpet welcome and received a standing ovation from the Israeli lawmakers, who lavished praise on him.
However, there was a jarring note amid the celebratory mood.
As he was delivering a historic address to the Knesset moments after Hamas freed all 20 remaining hostages following a two-year captivity, two left-wing lawmakers heckled him mid-speech, leading to a brief but chaotic interruption.
Ofer Cassif (60) and Ayman Odeh (50), both members of the Jewish-Arab Hadash alliance, shouted at Trump before being escorted out by security.
One of the MPs was caught on camera displaying ‘Recognise Palestine’ slogan from his chair before security officials managed to whisk him away.

The interference came when Trump was praising his special envoy Steve Witkoff, who played a key role in drafting a peace deal to end the two-year war between Israel and Palestinian terror group Hamas.
Knesset Speaker Amir Ohana apologised to Trump for the commotion.
“Sorry about that, Mr President,” Ohana said, to which Trump replied, “That was very efficient.” It drew laughter from other parliamentarians.
