Mumbai: Two days after being discharged from hospital, Saif Ali Khan recorded his statement with the Bandra police in connection with the attack in the early hours of January 16 at his residence.
The actor said that he woke up to screams of his younger son Jeh’s nanny at around 2.30 am. At that time, he was in his bedroom on the 11th floor with wife Kareena Kapoor Khan.
They rushed to Jeh’s room where they saw nanny Eliyama Philips screaming and Jeh crying, while the intruder was already in the room.
Saif said in his statement that he tried to stop the intruder, but the latter stabbed him multiple times on his back, neck and hands.
The actor then pushed the intruder inside the room, and as the nanny ran out of the room with the child, he locked the room from outside, NDTV quoted police sources as saying.
Saif suffered multiple injuries, including deep wounds on his neck and back. He was rushed to the Lilavati Hospital early on Thursday morning, and underwent multiple surgeries. The actor was discharged from hospital on Tuesday.
Following the stabbing incident, Saif, Kareena and their two kids — Taimur and Jeh — are getting temporary protection from police. Two constables have been deployed with the family to ensure their safety.
The accused, a Bangladeshi national, is in police custody. He told police that he targeted Saif’s house for burglary and was not aware it was a celebrity’s house.
