Bhubaneswar: Amid the Ghibli frenzy on the internet, OpenAI CEO Sam Altman urged ChatGPT users to slow down. This came days after the overwhelming usage of ChatGPT’s latest image generator, powered by the GPT 4o, caused a server load at OpenAI. This reportedly slowed down the company’s service.
The viral trend, which reimagines everything from pop culture icons to personal portraits in the signature style of a legendary Japanese animation studio, has led to social media users generating such images at an unprecedented pace.
Sam Altman posted on X, asking users to “please chill on generating images.” He called the demand “insane.” He also mentioned that the “team needs sleep.”

Earlier this week, Altman had said that the ChatGPT server load is “too high.” He had also mentioned that the company was limiting the feature.
“It’s super fun seeing people love images in ChatGPT. But our GPUs are melting. We are going to temporarily introduce some rate limits while we work on making it more efficient. Hopefully won’t be long,” he had tweeted.
The OpenAI CEO added that free ChatGPT users will soon get the feature. “ChatGPT free tier will get 3 generations per day soon,” he said.
Meanwhile, some users have reportedly started receiving errors when using the xAI’s Grok chatbot to generate ‘Ghiblified’ images, prompting them to pay for an X subscription, reported the Hindustan Times.
