Mumbai: The makers of ‘Dada’, the upcoming biopic on former Indian cricket captain Sourav Ganguly, have unveiled its first poster featuring Rajkummar Rao, on the cricket legend’s birthday.
The striking first look recreates Ganguly’s iconic shirt-waving celebration from the Lord’s balcony after India’s historic NatWest Trophy triumph in 2002.
Soon after the poster was released, the cricket legend shared his reaction, leaving fans excited for the much-awaited film.
Along with the poster, the makers also announced that the biopic is set to hit theatres on May 14, 2027.
The first-look poster recreates one of the most memorable moments in Indian cricket.
Rajkummar is seen waving the blue Team India jersey from the Lord’s balcony, with the Indian tricolour in the background, recreating Ganguly’s famous celebration after India’s NatWest Series win in England.
The moment dates back to July 13, 2002, when India successfully chased 326 runs against England in the NatWest Series final at Lord’s.
After Yuvraj Singh and Mohammad Kaif led India’s remarkable comeback, an overjoyed Ganguly took off his shirt and waved it from the balcony to celebrate the victory.
Many believed the celebration was Ganguly’s response to England’s Andrew Flintoff, who had celebrated shirtless after England defeated India at Mumbai’s Wankhede Stadium a few months earlier.
Over the years, Ganguly’s celebration has become one of the most iconic moments in Indian cricket.
Reacting to the first look poster, Ganguly wrote, “The best gift ever! Can’t wait to see you play my cover drive!”
