Jharsuguda: After nearly three months’ suspension, regular flight operations from the newly-built Veer Surendra Sai (VSS) Airport in Jharsuguda will resume from March 31 this year.
Informing this to the media on Saturday, director of Jharsuguda Airport, SK Chouhan said the SpiceJet airliner will launch its regular flights operations from the airport from March 31.
“The private airliner has decided to launch its flight operations from the VSS Airport to New Delhi, Kolkata and Hyderabad,” he added. This will be the budget carrier’s first foray into Odisha.
Chouhan also informed that a team of officials of the private airliner took the decision after visiting the airport earlier in the day.
The Jharsuguda airport was inaugurated by Prime Minister Narendra Modi on September 22, last year. However, operations stopped at the airport after around 15 days as Air Odisha airline suspended its flight services.
It had emerged as a major gainer under the UDAN phase 3, the regional connectivity programme of the Narendra Modi government. Four carriers had won the bid last month to run direct flights from the industrial town to cities such as Kolkata, Bhubaneswar, Hyderabad, Mumbai, Delhi and Raipur.
