Mumbai: Television actor Rohit Chandel (29) has been arrested by the Mumbai Police for allegedly stalking and assaulting a 16-year-old girl.
Chandel is best known for who is best known for his roles in Pandya Store and Kashibai Bajirao Ballal. He gained popularity for portraying Dhawal Makwana in Pandya Store and also played Baji Rao in Kashibai Bajirao Ballal. He was recently seen in the television show Sairaab.
The actor has been accused of allegedly stalking, repeatedly calling, harassing and assaulting a 16-year-old girl. A case has been registered against the actor under the Protection of Children from Sexual Offences (POCSO) Act, as reported by News18.
He was reportedly arrested by the Pant Nagar Police from his Dahisar residence on Friday and later produced before a special POCSO court, which remanded him to police custody.
The FIR claims that Chandel made repeated phone calls to the minor from his personal number as well as other mobile numbers despite her objections. It has also been stated in the complaint, that on July 5, the actor allegedly stopped the girl near her housing society, got into a verbal altercation, abused and assaulted her.
Along with the POCSO Act, the actor has also been booked under Sections 78 and 115(2) of the Bharatiya Nyaya Sanhita (BNS), which deal with stalking and voluntarily causing hurt.
“Following the complaint, a case was registered and the accused has been placed under arrest. Further probe is underway in the case,” a police official has been quoted as saying by The Times of India.
The actor or his team has not issued any public statement or reacted to the allegations or his arrest as of now.
