Sonpur: Two minor girls were rescued after they allegedly jumped into the Mahanadi River from the Binika bridge in Odisha’s Sonpur district on Saturday.
According to information, the girls were spotted by some locals engaged in fishing in the river. They rescued the two from the water and informed fire service department about the incident.
On being informed, a team from Binika Fire Station reached the spot and rushed the two girls to a nearby hospital. After receiving preliminary treatment, they were shifted to the District Headquarters Hospital (DHH) for further treatment.
One of the girls is reportedly from the Binika area, while the other is from the Boudhagada area.
The exact reason and circumstances that led the two minors to jump into the river is yet to be ascertained. Police have launched an investigation into the incident.
