Mumbai: He is 15 years and 2 months old, but Vaibhav Sooryavanshi has been playing cricket like a senior pro. In fact, the boy from Bihar has been thrashing top international bowlers and smashing records in every game.
He is already an U-19 World Cup winner and has been named in the India A squad for a 50-over Tri-series in Sri Lanka in June.
Following a sensational season in IPL 2026, there has been a clamour for Sooryavanshi’s inclusion in the senior Indian team.
The selectors certainly have an eye on the teenaged prodigy as they have included Sooryavanshi in the 30-member list of probables for the Asian Games to be held in Aichi-Nagoya from September 19 to October 4, reported PTI.
The Asian Games will feature T20 competition, which will suit Sooryavanshi perfectly.
Since the Asian Games overlaps with Team India’s home white-ball series against the West Indies, the Board of Control for Cricket in India (BCCI) will have to select two separate T20 teams.
There is a strong chance of Sooryavanshi becoming the youngest cricketer to play for Team India this year itself.
The legendary Sachin Tendulkar holds the Indian record, having made his debut for the country at the age of 16 years and 205 days.
If Sooryavanshi makes the cut for the Asian Games in September, he will be around 15 years and 6 months.
