Berhampur: In yet another poverty induced desperate step, a woman reportedly borrowed some money for the treatment of her husband by keeping her infant baby as security with her relatives in Ganjam district.

According to reports, Dukha Naik of Baliapatna village under Bhanjanagar block was critically injured in a road accident three months back. He could not recover from the injuries due to lack of proper treatment. Rather, his condition started to deteriorate.

Dukha’s treatment needed high expenditure which his wife Jhili Naik could not afford. Jhili, the only earning member of the family, works as a labourer.

With no resources to arrange the money, she approached her elder sister. Though the sister agreed to giver her money, she wanted to keep Jhili’s 5-month-old son as security till she returns the amount.

Jhili took Rs 10,000 from her sister in exchange of her son for treatment of Dukha and buying medicines.
