Bhubaneswar: Two women allegedly attempted to end their lives by consuming poison while staging a protest over land issues at Lower PMG in Bhubaneswar on Sunday evening.
Sources said the two women, stated to be from Banapur area of Khurda district, were admitted to to Capital Hospital’s ICU in critical condition. The were were identified as Manasi Behera and Bigyani Panda, both in their 40s.
Police sources said three women, including Behera and Panda, were protesting at the designated dharna site at Lower PMG, demanding resolution of a long-standing land dispute.
Police personnel were present during the protest at the designate site and Banapur police were called to take them back and resolve their issue, a senior police official said.
Before they were preparing to leave, the women went to the public toilet and allegedly consumed poison. The two were immediately rushed to Capital Hospital for treatment.
