Bhubaneswar: Bhavesh Patra from Odisha has secured the top position in the IIT-Bhubaneswar zone with an impressive All India Rank (AIR) of 29 in JEE Advanced 2026 examination, the result of which was announced by IIT Roorkee, the organising institute, on Monday.

A student of city-based Cohen International School, he had scored a 100 percentile, securing state rank-1 and all-India rank-13, in JEE (main) 2026 session-II.

While over 5,428 students qualified from the zone in the JEE Advanced 2026 examination, Reddi Sahi Sahiti achieved the highest rank among female candidates, locking in an AIR of 230. Two other students of Cohen – Aryasaman Pradhan and Dibyanshu Mohapatra – achieved AIR 314 and AIR 951 respectively.

Reflecting on his preparation strategy, Bhavesh emphasised that rigorous practice is particularly vital for the Physics and Mathematics sections. He added that while Chemistry also demands hard work, a deep and precise focus on theoretical concepts is essential to score well in the subject. “This result is the outcome of the efforts I put in during the last two years. I used to study for more than 10 hours every day and would only go to sleep after completing the tasks assigned to me,” he said. He mostly stayed away from social media, limiting himself to WhatsApp for teacher communication, and relied heavily on mentorship.

“I would like to pursue Computer Science Engineering from IIT Bombay,” he added.

Dibyanshu said that securing a rank under 1,000 was his long-cherished dream. “I was a little disappointed because my rank was not exactly what I had expected. However, I am happy to have secured a rank within the top 1,000. Consistency is very important,” he said. He followed an eight-to-nine-hour daily schedule focused on completing subject-wise portions.

Aryasaman also maintained nine to ten hours of daily study, emphasising completion of assignments and thorough analysis of previous tests. “I am happy with my result. My next goal is to get enrolled in IIT Bombay in Electrical Engineering. In the future, I would like to pursue academic research,” he added.

Notably, Shubham Kumar from Bihar, who scored 330 out of 360 marks, has emerged as the all India topper in the exam, with the IIT Delhi zone showing strong dominance overall. Arohi Deshpande from the same zone emerged as the female topper with rank 77 and a score of 280/360.

While 187,389 candidates registered for this year’s JEE Advanced exam, 179,694 appeared for both papers on May 17. Of those who took the exam, 56,880 candidates, including 10,107 female students, qualified. The examination was conducted in two shifts: Paper 1 ran from 9 am to 12 noon, followed by Paper 2 from 2 pm to 5 pm.
