Cuttack: Three college students went missing after drowning in the Mahanadi River in Jagatpur area of Cuttack on Sunday evening.
According to sources, the mishap took place at Satabatia near Khaira Bridge of Jagatpur when a group of college students from Nayabazar area of the city had gone for a bath.
Four students had entered the river for a bath when three of them were swept away by the strong current. Locals who witnessed the incident immediately alerted the authorities after the students failed to resurface.
Soon after receiving the information, Fire Service personnel and local authorities rushed to the spot and launched an extensive search operation to trace the missing students. Rescue teams are searching the river using boats and other necessary equipment.
Fire service personnel, assisted by scuba divers, are reportedly continuing the search operation despite strong river current and darkness.
