Bhubaneswar: A youth was arrested by the police in Bhubaneswar on Sunday for allegedly raping a minor girl after building up friendship on Instagram.
The accused, identified as Supriya Maharana from Palashpalli area in the Capital city, was arrested on the basis of a complaint lodged by the girl’s family.
Police sources said the accused had befriended the minor girl through social media. The girl went missing on the evening of June 16 during the Raja festival after leaving home for a dance competition. Following her disappearance, her family filed a report about her missing at the Chandaka Police Station.
Following thorough search, police rescued the minor from Forest Park square area in the city on June 25. The survivor’s statement has been recorded, and her family has been informed of the developments. Further investigation is in progress.
Medical examinations of both the accused and the minor victim were conducted. The accused was arrested and forwarded to court on Sunday, a senior police official said.
