New Delhi: Islamabad should focus on dismantling terror infrastructure operating from its own soil rather than levelling unfounded accusations against neighbouring countries, India has said, dismissing allegations by Pakistan linking it to a recent attack in Karachi.
Randhir Jaiswal, official spokesperson of the Ministry of External Affairs (MEA), categorically rejected the claims on Sunday while responding to media queries.
“We have seen Pakistani reports making baseless allegations against India regarding the recent incident in Karachi. We categorically reject them,” Jaiswal said.
Instead of pointing fingers at others, Pakistan must introspect and take credible action against the terror infrastructure on its territory, he added.
“Pakistan would do better to look inwards… and rid itself of its proclivity to rely on terrorism as an instrument of state policy,” the spokesperson emphasised, as reported by Republic TV.
Three paramilitary forces personnel and a same number of terrorists died during an attack on the local headquarters of Pakistan’s Sindh Rangers in Karachi’s Gulistan-i-Jauhar locality on Saturday, the Sindh police chief told Dawn.
Javed Alam Odho, IG, Sindh, said that the terrorists had rammed the main gate with their vehicle and initially they could not confirm whether a blast had also occurred.
A “mopping-up operation” was underway and the area had been sealed by Special Security Unit (SSU) commandos, Anti-Terrorist Force (ATF) and rangers personnel, Odho said, as reported by Dawn.
The newspaper also quoted police surgeon Summaiya Syed as saying that one injured paramilitary trooper was brought to the hospital after sustaining gunshot wounds to the leg.
Law enforcers rushed to the incident site after heavy firing and an explosion were reported in the area. The general area was also cordoned off by the police.
An affiliate of Jamaat-ul-Ahrar – a splinter armed group of the Tehreek-e-Taliban Pakistan (TTP), also known as the Pakistani Taliban – claimed responsibility for the attack late on Saturday, Al Jazeera reported.
Nine attackers took part in the attack, the group said.
