New Delhi: Setting a new record, Prime Minister Narendra Modi becomes India’s longest-serving continuously elected Prime Minister. On Wednesday, he has completed 4,399 consecutive days in office, surpassing former Prime Minister Jawaharlal Nehru’s record of serving as PM for 4,398 consecutive days.
Dubbing the feat as a moment of pride for the country, Union Parliamentary Affairs Minister Kiren Rijiju said PM Modi’s contribution to the nation would be “etched in golden letters” in history.
“It is a moment of pride for our country that, under the Prime Minister’s leadership, 12 years have been completed and he has become the longest serving elected Prime Minister, which is a historic achievement. The Prime Minister will have completed 4,399 days in office. I believe the work accomplished for our country during this tenure will be etched in golden letters, marking the time when, under Modi ji’s leadership, India took its first steps towards becoming a ‘Viksit Bharat,” he told ANI.
The National Democratic Alliance (NDA) is set to pass a resolution to mark the occasion at its meeting on Wednesday. The PM will be felicitated by NDA members at the meeting, according to a HT report. It will be attended by 72 NDA leaders and chaired by the PM.
Meanwhile, US Senator John Cornyn has congratulated Modi for this achievement. Cornyn, who belongs to US President Donald Trump-led Republican party, said that Washington-Delhi ties were strongest under PM Modi’s tenure.
