Ahmedabad/Raigad: At least six people died and several others were injured after a speeding truck rammed a stationary bus on the Ahmedabad-Vadodara Expressway near Anand town in Gujarat during the wee hours of Monday.
Media reports claimed that while five died on the spot, one succumbed to injuries in a hospital.
According to an India TV report, three women and the driver of the bus were among the casualties. The injured persons are undergoing treatment at a hospital.
“The accident took place near Chikhodra village in Anand district took place around 4.30am when the Ahmedabad-bound private luxury bus had pulled over on the roadside after one of its tyres burst. While the tyre was being changed, the passengers had alighted the vehicle and were waiting on the road. A speeding truck hit the bus at its rear end,” an officer from Anand Rural Police Station told PTI.
The identity of the deceased was yet to be established.
In another accident, a Maharashtra State Road Transport Coporation bus which was travelling from Alibaug to Panvel overturned near Raigad, the ANI reported. Out of 40 to 45 passengers, reports suggest that at least four were injured. The affected passengers were rushed to the nearest hospital. Police personnel from Poynad Police Station of Raigad evacuated the passengers.
