Surat: At least 15 people were killed and 6 others were seriously injured after they were run over by a truck here in the wee hours on Tuesday. Initial reports suggested that the tragic incident happened in Kosamba in the Surat district.
“At least 13 people died after they were run over by a truck in Kosamba, Surat,” police confirmed the accident, according to news agency ANI.
The cops said that the deceased were identified as labourers from Banswada district in Rajasthan. The labourers were sleeping on a footpath when the incident happened.
“A truck collided with a tractor loaded with sugarcane after which the driver of the truck lost control of the vehicle and drove it over the pavement where the labourers were sleeping,” Deputy Superintendent of Police, Kamrej Division, CM Jadeja was quoted as saying by the agency.

Two more casualties were confirmed later. Six labourers, who were injured in the accident, have been admitted to hospital.
