Bhubaneswar: Biju Janata Dal (BJD), the main opposition party in Odisha, is set to hold an important meeting on June 10 in Bhubaneswar.
During the meeting scheduled to be held at 4 pm at the party’s state headquarters Sankha Bhawan, BJD president Naveen Patnaik is slated to interact with candidates who contested the 2024 elections but were not elected.
Sharing information about the meeting, BJD’s senior vice president Debi Prasad Mishra told reporters that the meeting is being seen as part of the party’s ongoing efforts to strengthen its organisation after the 2024 Assembly and Lok Sabha elections.
All candidates who contested the last general election on a BJD ticket but were unsuccessful have been asked to attend the meeting. The leaders will get an opportunity to interact directly with Naveen Patnaik and share feedback from their respective constituencies, sources said.
The meeting will review the implementation of the party’s activities related to the SIR and the progress made in appointing and training booth-level workers across constituencies. BJD recently constituted a state-level monitoring team to oversee these activities.
Leaders are also expected to provide updates on the formation of block and urban level organisational committees and brief the party president on programmes undertaken in their areas.
Notably, BJD has been carrying out a series of organisational changes, including restructuring its state-level leadership and strengthening grassroots units. The June 10 meeting is expected to be another step in that exercise. The meeting is expected to review the party’s performance and organisational matters.
With the Panchayat elections in the state approaching, the meeting is being seen in political circles as a major organisational exercise by BJD to strengthen the party structure at the grassroot-level before the crucial local polls.
